build
day and night
London's events in one place, with your people: five picks a week, and one link that gets the group from "we should" to "we're going".
the problem
In London, music, comedy, theatre and art each sit behind their own app or site. There is no one place to ask what is on this week.
why it hurts
So the search stops at what you already know, and the plan itself stalls in the group chat: "we should" rarely becomes "we're going".
what i built
Hop puts London's events in one place: three answers and no account, then a weekly drop of five picks, each with the reason it fits and one a stretch. A plan link checks everyone's limits before it reaches the group, and friends answer without the app. By day it reads like a weekly magazine; in the hours before a night out it turns to night. I designed and built it, from the listings to the feed. It runs on real London listings; the film uses invented listings and sample friends.
Listings and friends in the video are invented, made up for filming.
how it works
Rank with plain rules, and show the rule.
whyEach event scores on the kinds of night you tapped, shared genres, your area and your budget, and the rule that earned a pick is shown as its reason, so the ranking is transparent, instant and testable.
Make one pick a stretch.
whyEvery pick carries its reason: a shared taste, your area, your budget. One is a stretch, for range, because the most accurate list and the most useful one are not the same.
Let friends answer without the app.
whyThe plan lives in the link: friends tap it and reply, and a no with a reason, too far or too pricey, keeps the plan moving.
in detail
01 / 04
The first screens: three quick things, no account, then the week in five, each pick with the reason it made the cut. Listings invented for filming.
02 / 04
Making a plan: everyone's limits are checked before the link goes out, and it lands in the group chat as one card.
03 / 04
Answering from the link, with no app: Jonah says not this one, too far; Maya is in. Sample friends.
04 / 04
The same night by day and after dark: in the hours before a night out, the whole app turns to night.
why it's useful
One place to decide, with your people, and one link to get everyone there. A no comes with a reason, too far or too pricey, so the plan keeps moving instead of dying in the chat.
technical specs
- Matching is rules, not a model: three answers (the events you would go to, where you head out from, your budget) score each event on category, genre tags, area and price, and the week is five picks, at most two per category, one of them a stretch.
- Listings come from the Ticketmaster and Skiddle public APIs plus nineteen venues' recurring nights; each event credits its source by name and links to it unchanged, and its art is drawn in type, never a re-hosted listing image.
- Plans, sign-in and the waitlist run on Supabase, and the weekly email goes out through Resend.
Being launched soon.
